Shares of the hugely popular digital payments company have crashed by the daily maximum allowed in Mumbai for two days in a row, even though India’s stock markets have been touching new all-time highs. It also landed in hot water with regulators — two years ago, the central bank barred its banking arm from signing up new customers. Paytm stock is now trading at just 487 rupees (around $6) a share. The latest plunge came after India’s central bank cracked down further on its business. Paytm launched its payments bank in 2017 as a joint venture with founder Vijay Shekhar Sharma.

Reuters —The death toll from flash floods unleashed by a glacial lake bursting its banks in India’s Himalayas climbed to 74 on Monday with 101 people still missing days after the calamity struck, according to provincial officials. An analysis of the images shows more than 60% of the water held in the lake drained out after the extreme rainstorm triggered a glacial lake outburst. This phenomenon happens when a glacial lake rises too high or the surrounding land or ice gives way and the lake bursts, sending water and debris rushing down mountains. CNN —Almost 200,000 books are being used to train artificial intelligence systems by some of the biggest companies in technology. Books3 is already the subject of multiple lawsuits against Meta and other companies using the system to train AI. Now, thanks to a database published by The Atlantic last week pulling from Books3, authors can see whether their books specifically are being used to train these AI systems. They stole a part of me.”Nora Roberts, the prolific romance novelist, has 206 books used in the Books3 database, according to The Atlantic. With the popularity of text-to-image AI systems, visual artists were in same situation last year, discovering their work was being used to train AI without permission.
